What is your height, weight and ability level?
Since you are looking at the amber, I would assume that your level is beginner/intermediate.
I would only recommend the amber if you are a beginner or lower intermediate or if you are an intermediate and can find a really good price on it, or if you are lightweight. I would also suggest a ski wider than the Amber (it is 70mm underfoot, I would suggest a ski about 74mm, but I prefer wider, but not as wide skis are sometimes better for beginners/intermediate) a wider ski is better for all conditions. 74-76mm is good for a ski in the east where we have occasional power days, or when the conditions get bad during the second half of the day. Out west, you want wider.
Demo before you buy. Last year, I demoed the Salomon Origins Ski (top of the line ski) and I really loved it. I had a lot of fun on it and I was ripping.
A guy who works with me at the shop was talking about how people aren't really into Salomon skis anymore, probably because they haven't been advertising as much. He loves Salomon and suggests them to a lot of people.
I love Salomon's boots.
I woundn't suggest the amber because it does not have a wood core.
Wood cores last longer, even just sitting around in your closet or garage. lower quality cores break down.
You also shouldn't get this ski if you are heavy.
It is a beginning/intermediate ski.
If you rarely ski and aren't planning on improving, this ski is okay, but I would go for something with a wood core.
K2 has a great line of women's skis, and volkl does too.
I would suggest the Tierra or the Sol from Volkl, and the True Luv from K2 for an intermediate female looking to advance to the next level.
