Advanced Skis With Novice Skier?
Hi, I am a beginner/intermediate skier. I pretty much ski anything from green to blue depending on the mountain. This year, I am looking to buy a new pair of skis. I was looking at Salomon X-Wing Tornado skis. I realize that these are advanced/expert skis but I can get them for cheap (around $500 with bindings). My question is will skiing on advanced skis be bad for a beginner skier? I realize that expert skis are firmer and bend less but would this be good for me becoming a better skier? Would these skis be okay for me?

If they are the proper length for you, go ahead and get them. Modern ski design is such that a more advanced ski will help teach you to ski better. Do take a set of lessons so you can learn to use them faster. Choosing the proper ski is as much an art as a science. Learn to tune your skis and keep them well tuned, it makes skiing a pleasure not a chore. You state you are an intermediate skier, so you need to learn a few skills and balance on a fine edge. Learn and master the basic skills to a high degree and you will have a ball.
Another brand I would suggest is K2, but there are so many models I can't keep track of them anymore. Have fun.
