The Trustiness Of Incentive Packages For Locum Doctors by Leody Ridmic
To the doctors from New Zealand and Australia the offer from Southland is too good to be true. The above offer was mentioned in an email from the locum doctor recruitment agency sent on behalf of the Southland District Health Board and it was mentioned to be open only from March to August. This medical staffing crisis is not the first time in Southland.
The doctor stand a chance to get skiing passes, holiday and bike hires etc apart from return airfares from anywhere in Australia or New Zealand. There is a lot that is there to see even if you don't like skiing. Brilliant activities like Surfing, mountain biking, tramping, mountain climbing and kayaking are all included in the email.
The hourly rate is negotiable. It was clearly mentioned by the Southland District Health Board chief operating officer that more junior doctors were needed by the hospital ASAP. Junior locum doctors were being offered $110 per hour to work here.
She did not pay much attention to the fact that it was mentioned in the email that there would be free ski passes. According to the New Zealand Resident Doctors Association secretary the permanent staff is not getting a salary that is anywhere near the locum doctor salary. She pointed out the fact that most f the doctors don't even earn above $30 just like the locum doctors.
There was also the permanent staff who worked for than 69 hours a week and they were paid $45 an hour for this over time. These doctors were not even considered for the locum offers. The locums are being given too much by Southland. Instead of asking them to work as locums, the permanent staffs were rewarded.
The union had offered help but the district health board was too busy dealing with things on its own. Resident Doctors Association and district health boards had payment issues which were brought to the forefront by a member of Southland Hospital junior doctor delegate. Only recruitment seems to be a problem and no one cared about attrition. The promotion of locum doctor package cannot be talked about by the managing director due to certain rules.
To the doctors from New Zealand and Australia the offer from Southland is too good to be true. This offer is valid only from March to August according to the mail sent by the locum doctor recruitment agency sent on behalf of the Southland District Health Board. The demands for doctors in southland as usual are on a roller coaster ride.
The offer is too good to resist and also offers return airfares from anywhere in Australia or New Zealand. Skiing does not have to be liked by everyone to enjoy the outdoors. You will be able to go for Surfing, mountain biking, tramping, mountain climbing and kayaking through the hospital according to the email.
