Holiday Decorating Tip: Use Everyday Items in New Ways (casasugar?format=xml)
Looking for more holiday decorating inspiration? Me too! Luckily, we have
another easy, inexpensive holiday tip for you. Today, our tip comes courtesy
of Andrew Corrie and Harriet Maxwell Macdonald of Ochre.
"Although it's fun having decorations that you pull out only once a year, we
prefer reinventing our everyday items when it comes to our holiday decor. From
Ochre, we have a great collection of silvered glass mats, which we use all
year. During the holidays, we turn them into centerpieces loaded with votive
candles and globe ornaments. The glow is ethereal and illuminates the entire
dining table. It's a warm look that doesn't scream Christmas. We also enjoy
bringing in natural elements that make sense to us personally, for instance we
like to make wreaths out of the pine cones, moss, twigs and winter berries we
collect around Shelter Island, where we live. This is especially fun for our
kids, who get to participate in the holiday decor. I get out the wire to make
the structure, then the kids pile everything onto it. It doesn’t end up
